Where are the best places to visit in October? Autumn can be a magical time of the year across the world. It’s the time of harvest, leading to fantastic food that compliments the changing of the seasons. While others are hopeful for an endless summer at the beach, we yearn for relief from the scorching hot temperatures and humidity. Fall is the time to return to the great outdoors! Granted, like many things, some places are better to celebrate the season than others. Here are a few of the Best places to visit in October in the world.
Contents
Eastern Sierra Nevada, California
From outside New England, the Eastern Nevada of California is one of the greatest places in the United States to enjoy fall colors. Furthermore, October is the greatest month to visit since the fall colors inside the Eastern Sierra peak in that month. Reno International Airport is the most accessible international airport. Drive around 45 minutes from Reno to Half Moon Bay to begin your trip.
The ideal way to appreciate the region is to take Highway 395 from Lake Tahoe to Lone Pine, or you may base yourself in Mammoth Lakes, a beach resort and tourist spot that is centrally positioned, then explore north or south on a gorgeous journey. Of course, one of the nicest things to do is drive about and shoot the magnificent fall foliage, which ranges from yellow to orange to crimson to burgundy. Pick up a brochure from the Mono District tourism office in Paradise Lakes to learn about the “must-see” drives.
The region is known for its many lakes, so try boating or kayaking to get a new view of the fall season. The June Lake region has a variety of lakes with marinas where you may hire boats. The greatest way to enjoy a panoramic perspective of the surrounding landscape is to take the chairlift to the summit of Mammoth Mountain. Enjoy lunch or wine sampling of some world-renowned California wineries at the top restaurant, or go hiking!
Finally, try visiting some of the area’s great hot springs. Benton Resort is about an hour and a half drive from Yellowstone Lakes. They are among the world’s purest hot springs. At 140o, natural mineral groundwater rises to the surface. Furthermore, Benton is an intriguing tiny town with a rich industrial history.
Northern Michigan, United States
Michigan is one of the top destinations to visit in the United States in October. If pumpkin farms, apple cider, and lovely red and orange hues are your idea of Fall, then travel to Michigan. There is nothing like spending the fall season in the mitten state, and Northern Michigan, particularly the Upper Peninsula, has many wonderful places to view.
The months of August and September are ideal for viewing the changing of the leaves and participating in fall celebrations. We recommend planning a 10-day road trip to visit all of the state’s gorgeous resorts before the winter season arrives. Take a journey north and stop in Part Of urban and Petoskey before heading to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to look for waterfalls in Marquette and Escanaba!
Acadia National Park, Maine
There seems to be no more famous destination in the world to commemorate Fall than New England, and then within New England, Acadia National Park is hard to top. Whether you’re driving down Park Loop Road, looking down at the top of Caddy Mountain, or having popovers just on the lawn of Jordan Pond House, there are many activities to do in Acadia Nature Reserve to observe the beautifully colored leaves that signify the arrival of autumn in this area of the globe.
While visitors may increase on weekends during autumn foliage, if you can visit on a weekday, you’ll have the park—and the city of Bar Harbor—almost to yourself. Bring a warm coat; after all, this is Maine, and temps will be falling. You’ll need a jacket to watch the dawn from Cadillac Mountain: if you’re there in the fall, you’ll be one of the first individuals in the United States to view the sunrise for the day.
Miami, FL: Best places to visit in October
Miami, like Paris, Nyc, and London, is always a wonderful option, but especially now, with the discounts in the 305 and everything else going on this month. According to KAYAK statistics, rates are down 13% compared to the same days in 2019, with further savings on private sales, boat trips, and sunset cruises. On October 22, a Ricky Martin x Nino Iglesias performance will take hold at MIA, while Columbus Day Weekend will witness the return of Miami’s exciting cultural event Carnival, and there is also a crazy cruise devoted to KISS if that’s your cup of tea.
Speaking of vacations, Virgin Voyages, the upstart cruise company that has essentially waited for the whole epidemic to take sail, will finally depart Miami in October. This means that tourists may make a Miami/Bahamas combined trip a reality on this exciting new vessel, and there are even some very nice bargains and incentives for customers who sail before 2021.
The Virgin Voyages ships will depart from Airport V into Miami’s lagoon, with the city’s magnificent cityscape as a background. Sailors will discover high-design components coated in Virgin’s characteristic red on board the stunning, yacht-inspired Scarlet Lady, as well as more than 20 eateries, some from Michelin-starred chefs, an outstanding spa, and even guest cabins and “seabeds” that can be reconfigured to optimize space.
Where to stay: The KAYAK Miami Beach, located a few streets from the beach in a more quiet, neighborhood portion of South Beach, is a new child on the block, with a plunge pool and rooftop patio, as well as a fantastic canal-side, Middle Eastern eatery directly on site. The rooms, which combine classic features with contemporary décor, are comfortable and exactly the right price, with launch prices in October hovering at about $200 per night as of press time.
Banff National Park, Alberta
We couldn’t write a list of the best places to visit in October without including my favorite spot in Canada. One of the finest times to visit Banff is in October. Summer visitors have long since left, and travelers may anticipate off-season rates on Banff lodging. However, don’t anticipate Banff to be deserted.
The larch pine needles become golden in late September or early October before falling to the ground inside the winter. This is known as “larch season.” It’s the ideal time to trek and shoot in the Rockies, despite the fact that it only lasts two weeks. By mid to October, much of Banff is covered with snow. The peaks have been blanketed with snow, and the route to the famed Moraine Lake has been blocked for the season. However, this does not preclude late October from being pleasant. Last year, towards the end of October, we were ice skating on frozen lakes, and on Halloween, we were skiing at Lake Louise Ski Resort!
Istanbul, Turkey
“Turkey is perhaps one of the Best Places to visit in October for foreign tourists.” All Americans are welcome, and no detention or testing is necessary for vaccinated tourists. Others who have a negative PCR or Elisa test can enter,” says David Leiter of A World Travel Guy.
The Hagia Sophia, a landmark of the Roman and Byzantine Empires and now a museum situated in a domed mosque with stunning Biblical themes, is one of Istanbul’s major tourist attractions. Leiter recommends visiting Turkey in October due to the milder weather and fall colors. Restaurants, parks, and marketplaces are open, giving it the ideal time of year for a leisurely stroll through Changer (the city’s trendiest nabe) or down Istiklal Caddesi—the major shopping and dining street.
Other attractions at this crossroads of Eastern and Western cultures are the Grand Bazaar, the Great Mosque, the Galata Tower, and the Basilica Cistern. If you appreciate Mediterranean food and BBQ (and who doesn’t? ), here is the place for you, especially at crowd-pleasers with plenty of kebab alternatives such as Last Ottomon Café & Restaurant, Bitlis, Siva Restaurant, and the incredibly economical and excellent Hidden Garden.
Where to stay: Right now, prices in October are cheap, with tourists taking advantage of specials at the 5-star Sophia Sofia Mansions for as little as $132 per night. The hotel is built in an old timber home and features comfortable rooms to pamper oneself in, with contemporary Turkish design and patterns, as well as lovely bathrooms with mosaic tiled flooring. Some of the apartments even have claw-foot baths. The hotel also has a lovely hammam and an attractive outdoor courtyard with trees, a fountain, and plenty of spots to dine and relax.
As of press time, accommodations at the stylish and spacious Radisson Blu Hotel Turkey Ottomare were as little as $69 per night. The hotel is well-known for its magnificent resort-style, outdoor pool, and enormous indoor pool; you may also choose suites with spacious rooms or outside gardens, and so many rooms offer stunning views of the Sea of Marmara.
Phoenix, Arizona
The “Valley of the Sun” is a famous tourist site in the U. S., and the ideal time to come is in October. The hot summer desert begins to cool in early September, and by Oct, you’ll have some of the nicest weather all year. Beginning in early October, people flock outside to enjoy the deserts. They head for the mountains, and hiking is a popular local sport. Camelback, Piestewa Peak, South Mountains Park, and the Superstitious beliefs east of town are also popular hikes.
The Desert Arboretum is an excellent location for falling in love with the desert. Sonoran Sippin’, a nighttime event featuring live music and stunning sunsets, is one of their many activities. Oktoberfest as well as the Arizona County Fair both kick off the festive seasons in Phoenix in October. Local First Phoenix Fall Fest also celebrates all things local in Phoenix and supports small businesses. And who wouldn’t like the Arizona Tortilla Festival, the world’s first taco festival?
There are also various enjoyable pumpkin festivals to celebrate the autumn season. Schnepf Farms Pumpkins and Chili Festival, Tolmachoff Farm Pumpkin Days and Corn Labyrinth, and Mother Nature’s Farm Halloween Duck Pond are among the events. Fly into Phoenix Cloud Harbor International Airport, which is only 20 minutes from downtown Phoenix. To get about much of Phoenix, you’ll need a car, although it’s simple because much of the city is grid-lined.
The month of October is ideal for visiting Phoenix. You’ll have a fantastic time in Phoenix whether you come for the amazing weather, the autumn festivities, or the many other exciting things to do.
Lisbon, Portugal
The best places to visit in October in Lisbon, whenever the summer throngs disperse and temperatures linger around 85 degrees. It’ll also be a particularly inexpensive time to come, with summer visitors long gone, and KAYAK’s research indicating that this is *the* location to get a deal in, with rates down 27 percent as compared to the very same dates in 2019. Portugal already is a more affordable option to see Europe, but rates on excellent hotels are too tempting to pass up—just look at the list below.
The spectacular aquarium Oceanário de Lisbon, the lovely, picture-perfect districts of Alfama and Pico Alto, and the medieval architecture and monasteries of Mosteiro dos Jeronimos are all must-sees in Lisbon. The majority of it may be seen on foot or by taking one of the city’s magnificent trams, some of which give great hilltop views. Our best way to explore Lisbon is to grab a pastéis de Nata (local custard pastry) and ride the Route 28 tramway through some of the city’s most small neighborhoods until you arrive at Portas do Sol.
It’s about as beautiful as it gets, with a birds-ey view of the city and sea. Cascais, a 40-minute day excursion from Lisbon, may also give you one final day at the beaches before the weather becomes too cold.
Where to stay: Rates at the fashionable H10 Duque Loulé, which has a great rooftop terrace, are $155 per night in October; the pool at Hotel White Lisboa may not be heated, but you can still stay for $100 or less as of press time; and the budget-friendly Lisbon Vegetable patch Boutique Guest House is even cheaper, with rates starting at $65 per night. Even the 5-star beauty, The One Palácio da Anunciada, has single rooms for less than $200 a night for the whole month of October. Do you really need a bigger incentive?
Weston, Missouri
Weston, Missouri is one of the best places to visit in October. It’s a charming tiny town with charming shops, cafes, and pubs to discover. During the summer months, campers visit Weston Bend Nature Reserve, one of Missouri’s most beautiful state parks. In the winter, people go from miles away to neighboring Snow Creek for a flavor of skiing and snowboarding… or, more accurately, downhill ice skating. However, the little town comes alive every October for its annual AppleFest. You may go to small & mid-family farms and select your own apple straight off the tree.
Apple picking is a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. But first, walk into town to discover how this town understands how to party! At the city center, you are immediately transported back in time. The streets are lined with old buildings that house mom-and-pop stores and small restaurants. Furthermore, merchants from all across proudly showcase their items during the greatest block celebration in town! Live music, delicious food, and local crafts compete for your interest in a relaxed setting reminiscent of a period before color television.
Even more local gems may be found just off the city center. Local vineyards, coffee shops, brewers, and restaurants all participate in the festivities. Lunch is available at O’Malley’s Pub. O’Malley’s is a true subterranean Irish bar, built in an ancient limestone cellar and hosting a rotating lineup of Irish musicians.
Scottsdale, AZ: Best places to visit in October
Retreat to the great life in this wealthy enclave, a community inside the broader Phoenix metro region with a unique identity. Aside from the breathtaking vistas and desert splendor, there are lots of luxury spas, golf courses, as well as other leisure activities, not to add delicious food that draws visitors year-round. However, in October, when the temperature reaches 86 degrees, there is more reason for visiting, including Arizona’s Taco Festival. In its 11th year, you’re sure to fall in love that having at least a handful of the more than 50 tacos from various restaurants, chefs, and food trucks.
Scottsdale also has a free concert that runs every week through October and involves local bands and artists, as well as an art walk with pieces from over 30 galleries, a kinda freaky hot air balloon festival, and an Oktoberfest party located on a nearby train thru the Verde Canyon. Another popular activity for travelers is an afternoon spent visiting Butterfly Wonderland, which is home to thousands of kinds of insects and where you could be lucky enough to still have one land straight on you.
Places to stay: Poolgoers will appreciate the ideal sunbathing conditions at Sonoran Gateway Pool, the grown-ups pool at The Westin Princess. There’s also the 6,000-square-foot Sonoran Splash Pool, which has two 200-foot curving water slides. Did we mention there’s a Princess Pool facing lagoons as well as a golf course, as well as a rooftop pool?
Another hidden treasure in Scottsdale is this lovely property offered by Vacasa, complete with a private swimming pool, hot tub, outside kitchen and grill, gaming tables, and seating for nine, making it an excellent value for you and your group.
